David Marshall is a San Diego architect whose firm, Heritage Architecture and Planning, has worked on several reconstructed park buildings and planning projects.

A recent article in the San Diego Union-Tribune (10/15/07) notes that he "has collected more than 2,000 postcards and assembled 128 pages of them in a new book, San Diego's Balboa Park, from Arcadia Publishing." He said, “Most cards probably come from estate sales after people pass away,” Marshall said, and many are ending up on eBay (87 recently listed online range from 99 cents to $12)." He said the most expensive he found cost about $40 and depicted a plane flying over the Plaza de Panama during World War I, when the Navy operated a training station in the park.

According to the article, "The images offer a window on the evolution of the park from a scruffy, dry mesa to the man-made Eden it is today."
