(Harmon and Shepherd)

From the end of World War II to the beginning of the Cold War, technology was well on its way in discovering new ways of defeating their enemies.  The United States and the Soviet Union were in a race to see who could come up with the most technological system in gaining the advantage over their opponent.

From 1945 all the way up to 1960, there was new and improve military infrastructure.  The Military had come up with new ways in defending themselves of any possible attacks by the Soviet Union.  From the Nike System to the Aquatone operation all the way up to the end of the missile gap, the United States were trying to seek new advantages that would help them find a way to avoid attack and to gain peace with the Soviet Union.  The United States knew if the Soviets made an attack on the U.S. soil, then this could be the final destruction of the world.  If the Soviet Union attacked the United States, would there be any way for the United States to protect themselves of any possible attack.
