Of the 315 Japanese Admirals who died in World War II, Isoroku Yamamoto is undoubtedly the most well known of them all (Ito211). The pages that follow attempt to provide a brief overview of Yamamoto’s early life, career and his contributions as a proponent of Japan’s naval air power. Attention is given to his involvement as a delegate at the London Naval Conferences, and his opposition to war with the U.S. Finally, his role as the architect of the Pearl Harbor attack and Midway disaster, and his death in the South Pacific by marauding fighters planes is addressed as well.
