In the end the Grumman F6-F Hellcat made a lasting impression on Japanese resolve. No other fighter in Navy or Marine Corps history ever had such an impact. Because of the Hellcat's high serviceability, supply and replacement system rate, the Hellcat was able to succeed where others had failed. Grumman did an outstanding job of mass producing these fighters. The tremendous versatility and performance of this aircraft was one reason the Hellcat was such a joy to fly. One of the most impressive statistics about the Hellcat was not that it shot down so many enemy planes, but that it saved so many more American planes from being shot down. Without the Hellcat the Pacific War with Japan could have drastically changed. I am glad it served it our country well.
