The Norwest Corporation was established and throughout the decade entered new markets through the purchase of community banks in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico & Texas.
1986
Wells Fargo acquired Crocker bank, which was originally founded in 1883.
1989
Wells Fargo bank pioneered in online banking services which allowed customers to check bank statements, transfer money between accounts and pay bills electronically from their PCs. Six years later, it became the first bank to surpass one million customers banking online.
