OF WORLD WAR II
At the beginning of Word War II, the Unites States lagged behind other nations in the development of tanks. While there were some who recognized the importance of armor before the war began, the German invasion of France in 1940 made all painfully aware of the fact that the US did not have sufficient armor. The US Army attacked the problem from two angles. Strategy and tactics for tank warfare were developed and tested in the field, and American industry worked on producing a tank that was fast, powerful, and easy to manufacture.
