
The Soviet Union was a world leader in the development of tanks both before and during WWII. In December 1941, the T-34 was introduced to the shock of the Germans. It was certainly the best tank in the world at the time, and was arguably the best tank produced during the war.
In addition to the T-34, the Soviets produced a good heavy tank early in the war, and by the end of WWII was producing some of the finest tanks in the world in the "Joseph Stalin" class of heavy tanks.
