HYBRID VEHICLES

Lower than expected production numbers and an unexpected lack of punch in the Pz III and early Pz IV forced Germany to look into other options.  The first of these was the Marder series of vehicles.  These were adapted German chassis with more powerful captured guns, or captured chassis with larger German guns that could not be fitted to German tanks at the time.  Several of these hybrid vehicles were very successful, and served throughout the war in all theaters.
