J. WALTER CHRISTIE

Walter Christie was an early pioneer in the development of tanks.  Although an Amercian, the US Army generally rejected Christie's designs.  Other countries, however, embraced his designs.  The Soviet T-34 is an excellent example of Christie's designs in action.    While the US didn't adopt any of Christie's tank designs, his vision for the development of fast, mobile tanks was adopted by the US Army.  The result: the M4 Sherman tank, a tank that was generally faster and more mobile than its competitors around the world.
