Premier 4.0 checklist
To capture original clip from videotape:
- for 320x240 presentation window size
- Movie Capture>Recording Settings>Audio turned off for silent film
- use 15 fps in Movie Capture>Recording Settings and Video Input
- 30 and 24 fps causes dropout (check File>Tools>Movie Analysis)
- file size (10 megs for 23 secs) will be 1/2 that of 24 fps (20 megs)
- manipulate color in Movie Capture>Video Input>Image
- turn down Density and Saturation, turn up Brightness
- adjust Hue for color balance
To make final movie from clips:
- for 320x240 presentation window size
- do a small preview (2-3 sec) of part of your project
- double-click on top narrow bar in Project window to get yellow preview bar
- cut out any soundtrack if not needed
- check transitions for correct arrow direction
- To adjust color/density/brightness of an original film clip:
- FILE>CAPTURE>WAVEFORM MONITOR
- To set pixel depth for color or b/w:
- MAKE>COMPRESSION>COLOR (use Video compression)
- there is no popup menu for standard Apple Video comression
- default is 16 bit color fixed
- Cinepak can be set for 256 gray (but larger filesize)
- None can be set for 256 gray (but larger filesize)
- To set presets:
- MAKE>PRESETS>TIMEBASE (use 15 fps)
- MAKE>PRESETS>PREVIEW OPTIONS (use 15 fps at 320x240)
- MAKE>PRESETS>COMPRESSION (use Color and Video)
- To set final compression
- MAKE>COMPRESSION (set Video, 15 fps, Quicktime Movie)
- use Cinepak for playback with dual processor DayStar card
- do not use Quicktime Composite
